I came to Clark County School District Directly from ASU in 1976, where I taught middle school reading and language arts for many years in grades six through eight. Over the next 10 years, I divided my time between teaching remedial, developmental, and accelerated reading, and raising my son who attended and was a lifer at the Meadows school. I taught fifth and sixth grade literacy for three years in a private school in Henderson, Nevada. In 2006, I earned my certification of completion for the international Baccalaureate-Middle Years Program-English A. IN 2009, I WAS nominated and awarded THE sarah d. barder, fellowship from Johns Hopkins University and the Center for talented youth-educator recognition programs. In 2010, I attended the writing/poetry kennedy center partners in education workshop.
I have volunteered in the community in various organizations and served on boards such as the Junior League of Las Vegas and helped implement the original lied children's museum. I've participated in children’s wilderness programs in which I single-handedly led over thirty 6th graders, accompanied by Camp counselors, down the Colorado river in canoes and into the grand canyon (during August in 113 degree temperature) sleeping under the stars in sleeping bags (no tents) for five days. Did I mention that I am terrified of all flying bugs and spiders? in my free time, I enjoy reading, listening to music, traveling, watching movies (especially my son's films), cheering on Chicago sports teams (da Bears), Chicago thin crust & deep dish pizza, chicago hotdogs, salads, smoothies, starbuck's coffee, snow skiing (I took my first lesson 9 years ago), raising my three dogs, playing golf, and spending time with my significant other, son, and daughter-in-law. While vacationing in Costa Rica, I conquered my fear of heights by zip lining through the rain forest. on an excursion in Sitka, Alaska, (to my surprise) I caught a 10 pound salmon. My SON and daughter-in-law live in los Angeles, California. I am proud to say that my son received his masters in film from the producer's program at ucla (they only accepted 12 applicants out of 1000 that applied.) Seven years ago, he started his own production company with two partners and is already An Accomplished film PRODUCER IN HOLLYWOOD. his last film premiered at the sundance film festival in 2014. Another Film staring johnny depp and directed by kevin smith, premiered this month at the Toronto film festival, and is scheduled to open in theaters on September 19th.
