PRODUCTION ON THE SET (daily, weekly, & upcoming)
GIG - respond to a daily GIG written on the board or projected from the MIMIO (bell work)
SSR - 10 minutes of silent sustained reading in class on Tuesdays & Thursdays
S.O.S. - For every 3 chapters the students read in their whole class homework novels, they will complete a summary, opinion, & support worksheet in class.
Introduction of new vocabulary words - this varies depending on units/lessons introduced from the SpringBoard text. The students will be given class time during the week to engage in activities independently, in pairs, & within groups to reinforce the meaning of their vocabulary words. The students are also creating a glossary/vocabulary log of the new academic vocabulary they're being introduced to. They're labeling each word as either unknown, acquainted, or established. The students will refer back to these words on a regular basis during the year.
*When a new list of vocabulary words are introduced on Monday, it will culminate with a quiz on Friday. Our first quiz on unit #1 words was held on Friday, September 12.
Reading strategies/skills & Literary Elements - ongoing introduction, demonstration, & practice of the literary elements & reading strategies/skills to build comprehension
Popcorn book shares - held every Wednesday in class on independent reading books - extra credit
Literature circles - commencing in January & held every Friday
Three whole class homework novels (read during the school year) - introduction of three whole class homework novels with accompanying projects assigned
* The first homework whole class novel, The River by Gary Paulsen will first be introduced & assigned in class on Monday, September 22nd. Please bring your books to class.
