Textbook/Three Whole Class Novels
SpringBoard by College Board (textbook used for unit vocabulary, short stories, poetry, & other activities related to reading.)
The following whole class novels listed below may be checked out at the public library, Ms. Greenberg's library, purchased, or uploaded on an electronic device. Novels will be assigned ahead of time with enough advance notice. Each novel will require an accompanying project, which will be passed out in class and listed on my website. Due dates for projects will be posted in advance on my website. These projects will require some work outside of class, and may include a need to go to the public library, use magazines, newpapers, the use of online appropriate & approved sites, and craft supplies, etc.
THE WINNER - THIS YEAR'S BEST NOVELS:
The River by Gary Paulsen (homework novel, model strategies/skills)
Please bring The River to class by Monday, September 22nd. I will be bridging (discussing) The Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen to give the students a better understanding of The River. It is the prequel to The River. Since we will be reading The River from the end of September through November, I won't be assigning the student project until September 22nd.
Maniac MaGee by Jerry Spinelli (homework novel, model strategies/skills) -
Maniac MaGee will be read after we have completed literature circle.
Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech (homework novel, model strategies/skills) - recommended 6th grade novel by SpringBoard. Walk Two Moons will be read immediately following The River. We will be begin reading Walk Two Moons following Thanksgiving break.
Other sixth grade books will be read in class during literature circle, which begins at the end of January.
