NIGHTLY READING HOMEWORK
Below, I've included a rubric detailing how I will evaluate the students on their independent reading & four reading response journal entries:
READING HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT ON THE SET
"Children should learn that reading is pleasure, not just something that teachers make you do in school." Beverly Cleary
WHILE READING OUR WHOLE CLASS HOMEWORK NOVEL, THE RIVER BY GARY PAULSEN, WE WILL NOT BE RESPONDING IN OUR READING RESPONSE JOURNALS AT HOME. INSTEAD, THE STUDENTS ARE GIVEN VOCABULARY & COMPREHENSION SKILL PACKETS TO COMPLETE AT HOME. WE WILL RESUME THE INDEPENDENT READING HOMEWORK & RESPONSES IN BETWEEN OUR WHOLE CLASS HOMEWORK NOVELS. I WILL ADD A LINK TO CHAPTERS 1-5 PACKET & 6-11 PACKET.
Independent Reading Homework & Responses:
The students must read a minimum of 20 minutes of reading every night for four nights from Monday - Thursday. Four reading responses must be written thoroughly in the student's journals (composition books). They are due every Friday in class. A homework pass may be used for only ONE assignment during the week; it is not valid for all four nights.
Students who fail to turn in their homework for the week (unless they were absent) will receive a late homework notice to be taken home & signed by their parents. It is important that students take responsibility to turn in their completed reading response journals on Friday unless they were absent. If necessary, I will contact the parent by email.
Below, I've included a rubric detailing how I will evaluate the students on their independent reading & four reading response journal entries:
Beginning the week of September 8, two on set homework passes will be issued to each student to be used during the quarter.
Additionally, late work will be accepted ONE day late for half credit; however, each student will receive two late homework passes (NQA) that will allow one assignment per homework pass. This is for one individual assignment only! If the pass is not used and still in student possession, it can be redeemed at the end of each quarter for 10 points of extra credit
NO HOMEWORK WILL BE ASSIGNED FOR OVER THE WEEKEND - HAVE FUN!
